  18. <p>     They are the Fred and Ethel Mertz of film criticism, rote
  19. sparring partners who would be better off in couples' therapy.
  20. GENE SISKEL and ROGER EBERT recently had one of their snippiest
  21. spats to date after Siskel (that's right, the thin one)
  22. disclosed The Crying Game's major plot twist on the duo's
  23. pre-Oscar TV special. An angry Ebert thought the revelation
  24. arrogant and selfish. Siskel's take: "Roger is an only child,
  25. and he thinks he runs the world. He was mad because he wasn't
  26. consulted." Siskel did warn viewers of his impending security
  27. breach, a considerate gesture for the hype-resistant few to whom
  28. Dil is just a kind of pickle.
