- <p> They are the Fred and Ethel Mertz of film criticism, rote
- sparring partners who would be better off in couples' therapy.
- GENE SISKEL and ROGER EBERT recently had one of their snippiest
- spats to date after Siskel (that's right, the thin one)
- disclosed The Crying Game's major plot twist on the duo's
- pre-Oscar TV special. An angry Ebert thought the revelation
- arrogant and selfish. Siskel's take: "Roger is an only child,
- and he thinks he runs the world. He was mad because he wasn't
- consulted." Siskel did warn viewers of his impending security
- breach, a considerate gesture for the hype-resistant few to whom
- Dil is just a kind of pickle.
